Aleph
alephThe Aleph represents the number One ; the Unity of the Cosmos. Aleph is one of the three "Mother" letters according to the Sefer Yetsirah, the book of Creation, written by Abraham, the first Hebrew. Aleph is the symbol of personal integration and balance:the  upper yud represents the higher Soul Self while the lower yud represents the lower Material Self, and the connecting vav is the mediating force. Awareness of this duality and striving to balance it draws the Light of the Holy Energy down to the Lower Self, and thereby raising it up closer to the Higher Self.  The components of the Aleph add up to twenty six, the numerical value (gematria) of the four letter name of God: the two yuds each have a numerical value of ten, and the vav has a value of six. May we all find the balance between our Lower Self (nefesh behamit) and our Higher Self (nefesh elokit) that we may effect Tikkun Olam, fixing the World.

Shin
shinThe Shin represents Fire, Passion. Shin in one of the three "Mother" letters, from which the physical world was born, according to the Sefer Yetsirah, the book of Creation. Shin's shape resembles flames, as does its sound. Shin symbolizes symmetry at all levels of body, soul, and spirit. Shin's three heads correspond to eternal flame: the unchanging, the potential to change, and the actual change. Fire holds that power of change within the changeless- always in a state of motion and flux - yet constant. Fire or Passion applied becomes the catalyst for change, Transformation, and creation. Shin begins the word Shalom, Peace.

Mem
memAccording to the Sefer Yetzirah, the Book of Creation, Mem is one of the three "Mother" letters from which the physical world was born. The Hebrew word for water, mayim, begins and ends with Mem. Mem's gematria, or number value, is forty, the number of weeks necessary for human gestation to be complete. Its shape resembling that of a womb, Mem embodies the Feminine aspect symbolizing the power of Fruition, Nature, and Life. The Mem and water are also metaphors for Torah wisdom, considered essential to Spiritual Life, just as water is essential to physical life.
